Post-Doctoral Fellowships

2019 Postdoctoral Fellowships in Space Solar Power

The Space Solar Power Project at Caltech (https://www.spacesolar.caltech.edu) invites applications for postdoctoral fellowships in space solar power science and technology and related fields. This program aims to advance the rapidly growing field of space solar power and is seeking exceptional young scientists and engineers with excellent academic track records and high research potential. These one-year fellowships (with possibility of renewal) will commence beginning as soon as May 2019, but no later than November 2019.

Eligibility
Current graduate students at Caltech or any other university may apply, although an appointment is contingent upon completion of a PhD. Holders of a PhD from any university, including postdoctoral researchers currently at Caltech, may also apply. There are no restrictions on nationality, though proficiency in English is required. Caltech generally does not allow a Caltech PhD to hold a postdoctoral appointment longer than one year.

All applicants must be sponsored or co-sponsored by a Caltech professorial faculty member willing to host the postdoctoral scholar.

Compensation
The fellowships provide a competitive annual salary plus benefits. The fellowships are guaranteed for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year.

To Apply
Applications should be submitted to kjackson@caltech.edu and mchen1@caltech.edu no later than February 15, 2019, 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time. The following must be included:

  • A cover letter with a short summary of past work, current research plans, and the names of three people willing to provide a letter of recommendation. If the applicant has not completed their Ph.D., the expected completion date should be provided.

  • A detailed CV, including list of publications.

  • A research proposal, up to 3 pages not counting references.

Additionally,

• Applicants should arrange for three letters of recommendation, one of which must be from the sponsoring Caltech faculty advisor, to be sent directly to kjackson@caltech.edu and mchen1@caltech.edu. Letters must arrive by the deadline.

Schedule
The complete application, including letters of reference, is due by February 28, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time. All applicants will be notified of the outcome of this year’s competition by the end of April 2019.
